Do you know a great South East Region tennis volunteer or a coach? Then here is your chance to say "Thanks!" Volunteers and coaches are a vital part of Junior Tennis in NSW. Medibank wants to recognise the achievements of these dedicated people with the Medibank Junior Tennis NSW Volunteer and Coach of the Month awards. The awards give you a chance to nominate a coach or volunteer each month in 2010 that has excelled far beyond what is expected. For more infomation and a nomination form please Click Here |

Kangaroo Valley tempts Beachley into Tennis!
KANGAROO Valley Tennis Club members were given a treat recently at their annual social and information day. The event attracted a big turnout of more than 60 people with the aim of encouraging more people to take up the sport in the local area. One of the highlights was the appearance of seven time world surfing champion Layne Beachley and her rock star fiancé Kirk Pengally of INXS fame. The large crowd was treated to two exhibition matches the first being a game of singles between Laura Kent and Mitchell Pritchard and the second a round of doubles with Laura and Mitchell taking on Beachley and local tennis identity Mark Pritchard. Layne and Mark had their hands full contending with Laura and Mitchell and in the end the juniors were victorious in a thrilling match that drew oohs and ahhs from the grandstand - but the seniors shouldn't feel too put out by their loss as Laura is currently the under 14 number 1 in NSW and Mitchell has just toured Europe as a member of Australia's under 13 squad of seven. The tennis committee ladies put on a magnificent spread to feed the hungry crowds and tennis was played well into the afternoon, all in all the day was considered a raging success. Kangaroo Valley Tennis Club offers a relaxed, warm and friendly club in a picturesque setting just metres from the beautiful Kangaroo River. They would love to hear from anyone who might like to join the club and take part in the fabulous sport of tennis and officials are particularly interested in getting more juniors involved. Batemans Bay Training Day a Great Success
Batemans Bay tennis club on Saturday the 24th played host to a tennis development training day. The day long session provided the players aged from 8 through to 17 with a variety of tennis ideas and exposure to a selection of excellent coaches from the region. Players rotated through the courts and activities of the various coaches, inclusive of drills, point construction, match play and fitness. All of this took place under the watchful eyes of Sandon Stolle- Head National Coach, Mark Wilton- NSW State Academy manager, and John Thompson and Darren Moore - NSW State Academy Coaches. The aim of the day was to allow players further exposure to tennis and to see the level of play and commitment needed to take their game to the next level. There were some great athletes present at the day and we look forward to the further development of these tennis players from the coastal regions. Overall the day was a huge success with 10 coaches participating, and over 45 tennis players from the local area attending the day. A big thankyou must be extended to all the coaches who contributed their expertise and also to the Batemans Bay Tennis Club for volunteering their time and efforts towards the success of the day.

Changes to Regulations About Working with Children in NSW
As from 1 May 2009, self employed people over 18 years of age, who are in child-related employment are required to apply for a certificate to show that they do not have a criminal record that makes them a prohibited person. The certificate will be current for three years. Who is self employed: Self-employment is where a person works for themselves rather than someone else or a company that they do not own. In a tennis environment this new regulation predominantly relates to contract coaches. Self employed people MUST obtain a ‘Child Related Employment Certificate' issued by the Commission for Children and Young People. Penalties of up to $2, 200 apply if you fail to provide this certification. To obtain your certification or for further information please click here: http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/ |
